Types
There are four different types of ready mix concrete.
• Truck Mixed Concrete: In this method, all the raw ingredients are mixed during the transit. Most of the water is batched at the plant and the mixer drum is turned at fast speeds during loading of the materials. The mixing can be done either at the job site, in the plant itself before dispatch, or during the transit period itself.
• Shrink Mixed Concrete: This method involves initial mixing in the plant mixer after which the concrete is loaded into the truck mixer to be mixed completely during the transit. The amount and time of mixing done in the truck mixer is determined using mixer uniformity tests.
• Central Mixed Concrete: The entire mixing process is completed in the plant mixer and the cement is loaded onto the truck mixer for transport. In this method, the truck mixer is used mainly as a transporter of the ready mix concrete.

This brought back memories, I used to work at a construction company and I ordered the concrete on multiple occasions. In the winter you have to have that quick dry stuff or Ash in it right? I see a lot of these cement mixers out driving around and I always thought if they were spinning it was to keep the cement mixed up not to do the actual mixing. I remember when the mixer (tear drop shaped thing) used to be on the trucks with the big end towards the cab, why did they change that on some trucks to be the small end towards the cab?
